I love music because it allows me to grow and challenge myself as both a player and a person. Additionally, I love the aspect of teamwork that comes with a band and I have met the most amazing and kindhearted people through music. I am so excited to give back to the organizations that have already given me so much with TBS!

I love band because it gives me the opportunity to meet new people and do the thing I love, play music. I joined Tau Beta Sigma because I loved all of the people in it, and the group’s atmosphere was just so fun and happy. I also was very interested in the service for the band and community aspect, and love promoting women in music.

Morgan Mayhew- Sophomore

Plays: Flute/Piccolo

Major: Music Therapy

I love music because of how it can connect people with different backgrounds. It’s amazing to me how music is a universal language and how one song can impact a person’s life so significantly. I love how TBS combines my love of music with my love of helping people. My sisters are so amazing and I am so happy to be developing such amazing relationships with people who have similar interests and goals.

Kris Kneisley - Junior

Sargent at arms

Plays: Sousaphone

Major: Film and Media Studies/ Creative Writing

I enjoy TBS/band because the people are some of the most active and inspirational people I've met, and I've made some great friends in Tau. They and the organization have both helped me to be a better person.

Sasha Arteaga - Junior

MWDAC Representative

Plays: Baritone and Trombone

Major: Trombone Performance and English

I like concert band because every piece we play is like a poem; I like to challenge myself to see how expressively I can play my parts. Marching band is similar, pregame is our love song to KU and our halftime shows are like episodes of what’s new in pop culture. I joined Tau Beta Sigma because as a female musician, I want to advocate for the promotion of women in leadership, not just in bands but in life. Through service projects, events, and ideals, TBS has helped me embrace my identities as both a trombonist and a woman. Our chapter, Zeta Delta is also a really great community with strong alumni connections and an amazing bond of friendship.

Cassie Quinonez- Sophomore

Webmaster

Plays: Alto Saxophone

Major: Elementary education

I love music because it has always been a way for me to express myself. I started out in orchestra but over time I found that band was my home and that's where "my people" are. I love music because it is something so universal that anyone can enjoy. I love Tau because its a group of people who made me feel at home. They are a wonderful family that I have grown to love, and I am so proud to call myself a sister.

Shelby Scott - Senior

Plays: Trumpet

Major: Music Composition

First of all, the people are fantastic, and have always treated me like part of a family. Second, I love band, and getting to help keep a great tradition like the Marching Jayhawks alive and well is amazing! However, the most important reason for me personally would be the emphasis on women in music. As a female composer, this is extremely important to me, because while it's getting better, we still have a ways to go before we are truly equal in the music industry. Being part of an organization that strives for gender equality in music gives me the chance to do my part in making sure that we are well on our way to a better world!

I love Tau because of the bonds I have with my sisters/brothers. I also love being able to give back to the band because the band has given so much to me.

I love Tau and band because it's a family away from home

This is my first year in marching band/band in general. My main instrument is double bass, and so I have been in orchestra since I was 9 years old. The reason why I love Tau is because of my fellow chapter members and sisters. No matter what time it is, or what the reason is, I know my sisters will always be there for me.

I love Tau Beta Sigma because we are a loving community. We welcome everyone and we get to work together using our passion for music. Band brings people together and Tau is one of those ways. And because of that, Tau Beta Sigma is family to me
